Palawan's capital, Puerto Princesa, is called "The city within a forest" due to the fact that 73 percent of its area consists of forest land. It’s been named the Philippines’ cleanest and greenest city, and has been internationally recognized for environmental excellence.
Puerto Princesa is synonymous to the iconic Underground River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, New Seven Wonders of Nature awardee, and a Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar Site). DAY 2 (BL) PUERTO PRINCESA
Breakfast at the hotel then get ready to conquer Palawan’s Puerto Princesa Underground River. Known as the world's longest navigable underground river, the Puerto Princesa Underground River is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of New 7 Wonders of Nature. Its main attraction is an 8.2 kilometer Underground River that winds through a spectacular cave before emptying into the West Philippine Sea. To reach the Underground River, we drive through the countryside for about 2.5 hours passing through Ulugan Bay to Sabang Beach. At Sabang Beach, we hop on a bangka (motorized boat) for a 20-minute boat ride passing through magnificent limestone cliffs. A leisurely 15 minutes walk through the forest will lead us to the mouth of the cave. We then traverse the length of the Underground River through a smaller paddle boat. A tour guide or boatman will use a searchlight to point out the cave's stunning stalagmites and stalactites, rock formations, its inhabitants, and even a 20-million-year-old fossil of a sea cow! The river's complex ecosystem has adapted to the underground environments over hundreds of years. An audio tour (recorded spoken commentary) is available in major languages. The Underground River tour last around 45 minutes and once done, the larger boat will take us back to Sabang Beach where a beachfront buffet lunch awaits. After lunch, transfer back to your hotel.
