The capital of the Philippines, its heart and soul, is Manila. Dubbed the Asian capital with a Latin spirit and Filipino soul, Manila sets the rhythm of life in this archipelago and is a vibrant hub that blends the Oriental with the Occidental.
Composed of 16 cities & 1 municipality, Metro Manila or the National Capital Region is the seat of government and one of three defined metropolitan areas in the Philippines.
Manila was born out of the ashes of a once flourishing Malay settlement by the banks of the Pasig River. Manila went on to witness a Chinese insurrection, a British occupation, became the Asian hub of the opulent Galleon Trade, and suffered some of the most devastating ravages of World War II. American historian William Manchester cited Manila as the most destroyed Allied city after Warsaw during the war years.
King Philip II of Spain granted the royal title "Distinguished and Ever Loyal City" (Spanish: Insigne y Siempre Leal Ciudad) to the city in 1574, and this also appeared in the original coat of arms of Manila. Until 1898, Manila was the seat of Spanish colonial rule in Asia.
Manila is a unique cultural experience for any traveler. From the 16th century treasures of Intramuros to some of the 21st century's largest malls, every corner spells fun.
Explore Manila and its neighboring southern region of Calabarzon with this exciting tour package from Javalava Tours.

DAY 1 (BLD) ARRIVE MANILA
Mabuhay! Welcome to Manila – the Philippines’ hyperactive capital that’s home to a man-made beach, the world’s oldest Chinatown, and shopping malls as huge as cities. We start the day right with a filling and tasty breakfast at Jollibee, the Philippines’ pride and joy. Afterwards we tumble to Pinaglabanan Shrine, a park and monument that commemorates the heroism of the Katipuneros who fought the first battle of the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Empire. Underneath the Pinaglabanan Shrine is the cavernous El Deposito. Built in 1882 using volcanic tuff, this underground structure was the main water reservoir for Spanish-era Manila. Then it’s onto the Manila American Memorial to explore the largest American memorial in Asia Pacific, occupying over 150 acres on a prominent plateau with breathtaking views of Manila skyline. After lunch, get major Europe vibes while shopping at Venice Grand Canal Mall – a unique shopping mall inspired by the beautiful Italian city. Check into the hotel then we make our way to Manila’s sweetest museum: The Dessert Museum – an interactive tasting adventure that transforms your favorite sweets into one epic, imaginative wonderland. It's CANDY-licious! Next, go souvenir shopping at Tesoro's Philippine Handicrafts. For dinner, indulge in a spread of mouth-watering Filipino specialties and an engaging performance by The Singing Cooks & Waiters. (Filipinos love to perform and there’s no shortage of talents here. In fact, Canadian musician and record producer David Foster called the Philippines “The Land of Singing Champions” after collaborating with several Filipino singers.) Enjoy your first night in the country and soak up the magnetic local culture.
Museo El Deposito is close on Mondays.
DAY 2 (BLD) MANILA-TIAONG-MANILA
Today, we drive to the countryside to Tiaong. Our destination: Villa Escudero, a massive Coconut plantation that offers a peek into the captivating country life. After you finish gulping your welcome drink of (You guessed it!) fresh Coconut, we tour the estate on a cart drawn by a Carabao (Water buffalo). Go river rafting on a native bamboo raft. Come lunchtime, we head to Labasin Falls. Kick off your Sunday shoes because lunch here involves immersing your feet into the flowing water from the falls. After lunch, witness an award-winning cultural show that features the ethnic and colonial diversity of the country. We then scoot off to Ugu Bigyan’s Pottery Garden – the picturesque home and repository of phenomenal earthenware pieces by Master Potter Ugu Bigyan. The creations of this self-taught artist have found their way into posh resorts and affluent residences not only locally but across the globe. We wouldn’t blame you if you get tempted to bring home a piece of the Philippines with you. We drive back to Manila then swing by The Fountain at Okada Manila. Measuring 37,464 square meters (403,260 square feet) (That’s about 50 Olympic-size swimming pools!), The Fountain will enthrall with its choreographed water, lights, and sounds performances. H2 OH WOW! After dinner, you’re free to check out the lively nightlife around the hotel. One ice-cold San Miguel please!

DAY 3 (BLD) MANILA-TALISAY-TAGAYTAY-MANILA
Dig into breakfast then pluck up for yet another day of fun explorations and discoveries. Life vest on! We’re going on a boat cruise around Taal Lake. Encounter local bird species. See fish pens supporting the local aquaculture industry. Get a closer look (Up to 10 meters away) of the volcano island that hosts Taal Volcano, a tiny but mighty active volcano that has erupted more than 34 times since 1572. Next, we set off to Tagaytay with the iconic Jeepney. Sit tight and enjoy the ride. Beep beep beep! After lunch, we skid to Museo Orlina – a treasure trove of striking contemporary art including glass sculptures, abstract paintings, and colorful vintage cars. The rest of the day is for major retail therapy. Acienda Designer Outlet Mall is the place to hunt for your favorite brands at discounted prices. Did somebody say Dolce & Gabbana?
DAY 4 (BLD) MANILA-PAGSANJAN-NAGCARLAN-LILIW-CALAMBA-MANILA
Wakey wakey! Up for another road trip? This time to Pagsanjan, home to the majestic Pagsanjan Falls. Popularized in the 1979 American epic war movie “Apocalypse Now,” Pagsanjan Falls offers a thrilling water adventure like no other. Get ready to board a Bangka (Dugout canoe) skillfully driven by two boatmen and maneuvered upstream while passing through 20 other minor falls, 16 rapids, and through boulders amidst steep gorges and tropical vegetation. At the falls, we hop on a bamboo raft and navigate behind the falls to see Devil's Cave. Brace yourself for a powerful hydrotherapy massage as the raft passes underneath the falls. After a sumptuous lunch, we roll into Nagcarlan Underground Cemetery. This national historical landmark which, from above, looks like the perfect setting for a romantic Spanish telenovela actually conceals an underground cemetery underneath. Built in 1845, the burial suite was reserved exclusively for Spanish friars, prominent townsfolk, and members of well-heeled Catholic families. Then we sashay to the charming town of Liliw where irresistible handcrafted bags, shoes, slippers, and more are in stock and waiting for their rightful owners. You came, you saw, you shop! Afterwards we bounce to 88 Hot Spring Resort in Calamba. This enormous resort (7 hectares to be exact!) was awarded as the best resort in the region and boasts 11 outdoor pools with naturally heated spring water from the dormant volcano Mount Makiling. Relaxation goals unlocked!
DAY 5 (BL) MANILA-DEPARTURE
It’s your last day in Manila but before you wave goodbye, prepare to stimulate your senses with a tour that will reveal the charms of the Philippines’ capital city. We visit Rizal Park, a massive plaza named after the greatest Filipino hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Then we pop into the walled city of Intramuros and explore historical gems like Fort Santiago, Plaza Roma, and Manila Cathedral. After lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight. Oh, the places you’ve seen. The memories made. Time truly flies fast specially when you’re having so much fun. It’s time to plan your next big escape.

DAY 2 (BLD) MANILA-TIAONG-CALAMBA-MANILA
DAY 3 (BL) MANILA-DEPARTURE
It’s time to plan your next big escape.

about this tour

5 Days, 1 Country
Tour Code: JAVALAVALAKAPATI
Start: Manila (Airport Code MNL)
End: Manila (Airport Code MNL)
Destinations: Manila, Clark, Angeles City, Subic, Bagac
Explore Manila and its neighboring northwestern region of Central Luzon with this exciting tour package from Javalava Tours.

DAY 1 (BLD) ARRIVE MANILA-CLARK
Mabuhay! Welcome to Manila – the Philippines’ hyperactive capital that’s home to a man-made beach, the world’s oldest Chinatown, and shopping malls as huge as cities. We start the day right with a filling and tasty breakfast at Jollibee, the Philippines’ pride and joy. Afterwards we tumble to Manila American Memorial to explore the largest American memorial in Asia Pacific, occupying over 150 acres on a prominent plateau with breathtaking views of Manila skyline. Then it’s onto Pinaglabanan Shrine, a park and monument that commemorates the heroism of the Katipuneros who fought the first battle of the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Empire. Underneath the Pinaglabanan Shrine is the cavernous El Deposito. Built in 1882 using volcanic tuff, this underground structure was the main water reservoir for Spanish-era Manila. After lunch, we venture out of Manila and head to Clark – Central Luzon’s burgeoning hub for commerce, industry, aviation, tourism, and education. We visit Hansa Creation – a toy wonderland that promises to delight the inner child in you. Here, life-like toy replicas of cute, sometimes massive (We’re talking Mammoth!), animals are hand-made and exported to the rest of the world, some even making it to Hollywood movies like the Tiger in the “Life of Pi.” After dinner, check into the hotel then you’re free to enjoy your first night in the country. Soak up the magnetic local culture and remember – YOLO!
Museo El Deposito is close on Mondays.
DAY 2 (BLD) CLARK
Finish your Arroz Caldo and down that Kapeng Barako. It’s time to head out and face the day! Our first stop is a center that transforms the lives of the city’s underprivileged youth through music, arts, and culture – Bale-Balayan Museum for the Poor. The term “bale'balayan” translates to “playhouse” in the local Kapampangan dialect. However, Bale-Balayan Museum for the Poor is more than just that. It’s dedicated in honing its residents in the disciplines of music and the arts as a ticket to a better future. Witness a captivating live musical performance featuring rare, indigenous musical instruments like Dabakan, Gabbang, Agong, Kulintang, Bambolina, Sarunai, and more. Every musical note, every choreography perfected through hours and hours of practice! Then we bounce to Clark Museum for a peek into the intriguing regional history of Pampanga. Discover remarkable artifacts, military memorabilia, and local products that depict the history of Clark from 1901 as a US Air Base to its current reincarnation as an economic and freeport zone. Not to be missed is the interactive 4D documentary film entitled “Risen from the Ashes” which will transport us back to the actual moment when Mount Pinatubo erupted. With spectacular sound effects, vibrating seats, and visual effects depicting ashfall and smoke, expect a one of a kind movie theater experience. Lights, camera, action! We continue to Puning Hot Spring, a haven for relaxation located along the southwestern part of Sacobia River at the foot of Mount Pinatubo. As one of the most destructive volcanic eruptions of the 20th century, Mount Pinatubo’s eruption on June 12, 1991 sent ash fall to as far away as Singapore, and in the year to follow, volcanic particles in the atmosphere would lower global temperatures by 0.5 degrees Celsius (0.9 degrees Fahrenheit). The volcano that once wreaked havoc is now quiet and provides a beautiful setting for you to unwind. Gear up for an adventure and wellness experience like no other: Off-road rides by 4x4 Jeep across majestic lahar canyons, therapeutic hot pools for you to dip into, warm volcanic sand massage, and nourishing mud packs… You betcha! You’ll look and feel like a new you after the all-natural pamper session. It's gonna be SPA-ntastic!

DAY 3 (BLD) CLARK-SUBIC-CLARK
Onward! Today, we’ve got our GPS set for Subic – a special economic zone, free port, and the number one tourist destination in Central Luzon with over 7.3 million visitors in the year 2021 alone. Subic Bay’s deep and calm waters harbored the largest US Naval Base in Asia Pacific until 1992 after which it became one of the most successful models of military base conversions in the world. We make our way to Zoobic Safari to meet a wide array of oddly adorable animals like Deer, Ostriches, Albino caribou, a Bear, Monkeys, a White tiger, and more. Hakuna matata! Watch out for the traditional war dance and monkey dance performed by the indigenous Aeta tribe. One of the highlights of the day is a close encounter with hungry Tigers during feeding time. Those enormous mouths and teeth devouring fresh meat is truly an impressive sight! (You’ll be safe inside a caged safari Jeep so fear not. Roar!) Afterwards we navigate to Inflatable Island, the world’s first and largest NFT-backed waterpark. This floating paradise located in the waters of Subic Bay covers an area of over 4,500 square meters (48,437 square feet), or 11 basketball courts put together side by side. With inflatable slides, towers, bridges, human launchers, swings and so much more, you’re in for the ultimate beach play. Not a daredevil? Worry not! You can hit the beach for a relaxing swim for a healthy dose of Vitamin Sea, chill out by the tiki hut umbrellas, or take a dip in the swimming pool at the Inflatable Island Beach Club. Whichever way you have it, you’re sure to enjoy in this multi-color Instagrammable paradise. Before we head back to Clark, we stop by Factory Outlet Store Subic. With discounts starting from 40% off the regular prices, it’s unimaginable to leave empty-handed. Go find the LeBron James Shoes!

DAY 4 (BLD) CLARK-BAGAC-MANILA
Rise and grind! Brace yourself as we time travel to the past and step back to the glory days of Old Manila at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. Home to Jose Acuzar’s collection of restored Spanish-Filipino houses, this beach resort in Bagac, Bataan reflects Filipino craftsmanship intricately curated into a world-class historical destination. (Awarded the Best Historic Hotel in Asia and the Pacific by the 2021 Historic Hotels Annual Awards of Excellence. No less!) Pop into Casa Biñan – the eminent abode of Teodora Alonso Realonda, the mother of Filipino hero Dr. Jose Rizal. Another house, Casa Lubao, saw the struggles of former Philippine President Diosdado Macapagal as a young boy. Perhaps the grandest and most iconic structure in the resort, Hotel de Oriente was regarded as the first premier luxury hotel in the Philippines. Originally built in 1889, it was once the crown jewel of Binondo, and now an outstanding showcase of a glorious bygone era. Go for a Kalesa ride, hop onto the Balsa and see the Casas in a totally different angle. Speckled with classic architecture, grandiose landscape, and spectacular waterworks, there is beauty to behold anywhere you go. After lunch, we swerve back to Manila and visit some major sites in the capital including the walled city of Intramuros, Manila Cathedral, and Rizal Park. Did you know Hilton empire heiress Paris Hilton visited this place when she launched Paris Beach Club in Manila in 2014? What better way to end the day than with a buffet dinner of delectable Filipino & Spanish cuisine at Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant. Keep your eyes open for the engaging cultural show. Tip: Find the rhythm so your feet won’t hit the bamboo poles during the Tinikling dance.

DAY 3 (BLD) CLARK-SUBIC-MANILA
Before we head back to Manila, we stop by Factory Outlet Store Subic. With discounts starting from 40% off the regular prices, it’s unimaginable to leave empty-handed. Go find the LeBron James Shoes! We swerve back to Manila and visit some major sites in the capital including the walled city of Intramuros, Manila Cathedral, and Rizal Park.
DAY 2 (BLD) MANILA-ANTIPOLO-MANILA
Fall off the bed and get set for another day of fun explorations. We make our way to Quezon Memorial Circle, an enormous park in the shape of an ellipse. Its centerpiece is the Quezon Memorial Shrine, an art deco-themed monument that holds the final resting place of former Philippine President Manuel Quezon (The first president to govern the entire country to be precise!) The towering structure stands 66 meters (217 feet) tall, representing Quezon’s age when he perished. We bounce to the “Shoe Capital of the Philippines” and swerve to Marikina Shoe Museum. Brace yourself for a peek into the lavish lifestyle and ogle at the legendary stash of shoes owned by Imelda Marcos. (Did you know that a word was coined after her? The word “Imeldific” means “ostentatiously extravagant, sometimes to the point of vulgarity.”) Close to the Museum are shoe stores selling beautifully crafted, world-class footwear. There was even a time, between 1978 and 1982, when Marikina’s women’s shoes and handbags made of snakeskin were the rave on Fifth Avenue, New York City. We wouldn’t blame you if you get tempted to buy a pair or two. We then set off to Antipolo City, a suburb of Manila located on the slopes of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range and a haven for the arts and relaxation. We visit Antipolo Cathedral where the Marian image, brought from Mexico in 1626, is believed to be miraculous in granting safe travels, prosperous lives, and healing the sick. In June 2022, the Vatican raised Antipolo Cathedral's status to an international shrine – the first such designation in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. It’s now one of only twelve places in the entire world with this special distinction. For lunch we skid to a spot that serves delicious chows and gorgeous views… Take in the glorious vista of the majestic Laguna de Bay and the Manila skyline. After lunch we pop into Casa Santa Museum, a Christmas wonderland with over 3,700 Christmas and Santa Claus mementos. Here, every day is the most wonderful time of the year! (Did you know that the Philippines has the world’s longest Christmas celebration which starts September 1st and continues all the way to the second week of January?) We head to Marikina Riverbanks Tiangge – a shopping arcade selling bargain items like fashion finds, home essentials, toys & hobbies, and so much more. Don’t forget to haggle! After dinner, we swing by The Fountain at Okada Manila. Measuring 37,464 square meters (403,260 square feet) (That’s about 50 Olympic-size swimming pools!), The Fountain will enthrall with its choreographed water, lights, and sounds performances. H2 OH WOW!
Pintô Art Museum will replace Casa Santa Museum if the latter is unavailable.
DAY 3 (BLD) MANILA
Finish your Arroz Caldo and down that Kapeng Barako. It’s time to head out and face the day! We visit Rizal Park, a massive plaza named after the greatest Filipino hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Did you know Hilton empire heiress Paris Hilton visited this place when she launched Paris Beach Club in Manila in 2014? Then, we make our way to the National Museum of Natural History which houses 12 permanent galleries that exhibit the country’s rich biological and geological diversity. Here, you will come face to face with Lolong (Well, his taxidermied self!) – the Guinness World Record holder for the world's largest crocodile in captivity measuring 6.17 meters (20 feet, 3 inches). Make sure to check out the “Tree of Life” – the Museum’s majestic centerpiece that proudly connects all the unique ecosystems in the Philippines, from magnificent mountain ridges, underground rivers & cave systems, to the captivating marine reefs. After lunch, we sashay to the walled city of Intramuros and explore historical gems like Fort Santiago, Plaza Roma, Baluarte de San Diego, and San Agustin Church. What makes San Agustin Church exceptional are the trompe-l’oeil murals painted on the ceiling and walls that were rendered by Italian artists Giovanni Dibella and Cesare Alberoni. (Divine optical illusion!) The church also holds the tombs of renowned figures. In fact, beside the church’s altar lies the tomb of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi – a Spanish conquistador and Pacific explorer who had spent most of his personal fortune to fund Spain’s expedition to colonize the Philippines. Aside from being credited as the head honcho in launching the first Asia-America trading line, Miguel Lopez de Legazpi also served as the first Spanish governor-general of the Philippines – establishing the first Spanish settlement in Cebu in 1565 and making Manila the capital in 1571. What better way to end the day than with a buffet dinner of delectable Filipino & Spanish cuisine at Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant. Keep your eyes open for the fascinating cultural show. Tip: Find the rhythm so your feet won’t hit the bamboo poles during the Tinikling dance.
The National Museum is close on Mondays.
DAY 4 (BL) MANILA-DEPARTURE
It’s your last day in Manila but hold your horses… We still have unticked boxes in our itinerary. We scoot off to the recently inaugurated Pasig River Esplanade – a linear park and embankment behind the Manila Central Post Office which, in the future, will span 25 kilometers (15.53 miles) on both sides of the Pasig River. Speckled with neoclassical details, and featuring fountains, romantic lighting, walkways, bike lanes, urban gardens, and more – the Pasig River Esplanade is reinventing urban spaces where people could reconnect with the river's once-neglected waters. We then roll into Paco Park – a picturesque green oasis designed with a circular shape. Its two concentric stone walls topped with a promenade and a rotunda church conceal intriguing stories and remarkable historical significance. After lunch, we step into the newly renovated Manila Zoo to meet its furry and feathery residents. Navigate through the zoo’s various sections including the two-story Butterfly Museum where live butterflies are free to flutter and interact. Check out the Philippine deer (Cervus marianus), Celebes black ape (Macaca nigra), Philippine serpent eagle (Spilornis holospilus), Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica), Philippine monkey (Macaca fasicularis philippinensis), the zoo’s lone Hebra (Horse crossed with a Zebra), and so much more. Hakuna matata! After lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight. Oh, the places you’ve seen. The memories made. Time truly flies fast specially when you’re having so much fun. It’s time to plan your next big escape.

DAY 3 (BL) MANILA-DEPARTURE
We then roll into Rizal Park, a massive plaza named after the greatest Filipino hero, Dr. After lunch, we sashay to the walled city of Intramuros and explore historical gems like Fort Santiago, Plaza Roma, and San Agustin Church. Afterwards, transfer to the airport for your flight. Oh, the places you’ve seen. The memories made. Time truly flies fast specially when you’re having so much fun. It’s time to plan your next big escape.
The National Museum is close on Mondays.

After lunch, we sashay to the walled city of Intramuros and explore historical gems like Fort Santiago, Plaza Roma, Manila Cathedral, Plaza San Luis, and San Agustin Church. Afterwards, we scoot off to the recently inaugurated Pasig River Esplanade – a linear park and embankment behind the Manila Central Post Office which, in the future, will span 25 kilometers (15.53 miles) on both sides of the Pasig River. Speckled with neoclassical details, and featuring fountains, romantic lighting, walkways, bike lanes, urban gardens, and more – the Pasig River Esplanade is reinventing urban spaces where people could reconnect with the river's once-neglected waters.
DAY 2 (BL) MANILA-DEPARTURE
It’s your last day in Manila but hold your horses… We still have unticked boxes in our itinerary. We pop into the Manila American Memorial to explore the largest American memorial in Asia Pacific, occupying over 150 acres on a prominent plateau with breathtaking views of Manila skyline. Then, get major Europe vibes while shopping at Venice Grand Canal Mall – a unique shopping mall inspired by the beautiful Italian city. After lunch, find the perfect pasalubong at Tesoro's Philippine Handicrafts. You came, you saw, you shop! Afterwards, transfer to the airport for your flight. Oh, the places you’ve seen. The memories made. Time truly flies fast specially when you’re having so much fun. It’s time to plan your next big escape.

DAY 1 (D) ARRIVE MANILA
Mabuhay! Welcome to Manila – the Philippines’ hyperactive capital that’s home to a man-made beach, the world’s oldest Chinatown, and shopping malls as huge as cities. Buckle up and get ready to stimulate your senses with a tour that will reveal the charms of the Philippines’ largest megalopolis. We then head to Marikina Riverbanks Tiangge – a shopping arcade selling bargain items like fashion finds, home essentials, toys & hobbies, and so much more. Don’t forget to haggle! After dinner, check into the hotel then you’re free to enjoy your first night in the country. Soak up the magnetic local culture and remember – YOLO!
DAY 2 (BL) MANILA
Finish your Arroz Caldo and down that Kapeng Barako. It’s time to head out and face the day! Afterwards we visit Rizal Park, a massive plaza named after the greatest Filipino hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Did you know Hilton empire heiress Paris Hilton visited this place when she launched Paris Beach Club in Manila in 2014? Then we pop into the walled city of Intramuros and explore historical gems like Plaza Roma and Manila Cathedral. The Premier Cathedral of the Philippines is a beautiful Neo-Romanesque edifice built from 1954 to 1958 under the supervision of Filipino architect Fernando Ocampo, after the previous structure was flattened in the Second World War. It’s a masterpiece of architecture with every detailed wall carving, its massive doors, panels, portals, and even its attractive stained glass have their own stories to tell. It truly has come a long way from its first incarnation out of wood, bamboo, and nipa in 1581. After lunch we tumble to Greenhills Shopping Center, a retail haven with over 2,000 stores selling items like gold jewelry, handicrafts, furniture, Barong and Terno, gadgets, and so much more. South Sea Pearls sold at Greenhills have made the pages of Vogue and attracted international celebrities like Martha Stewart, Rihanna, and Queen Sofia of Spain who went pearl hunting in Greenhills in incognito in 2012. Interestingly enough, the majority of the pearl traders in Greenhills are Filipino Muslims who originated from the Philippines’ southernmost island of Mindanao. Make sure to bring enough Pesos because it’s impossible to leave empty handed.
DAY 3 (B) MANILA-DEPARTURE
Breakfast at the hotel then free time until check out. Transfer to the airport for your flight. Oh, the places you’ve seen. The memories made. Time truly flies fast specially when you’re having so much fun. It’s time to plan your next big escape.
